The parenting stress hypothesis is one of the three theories that try to define the effects of poverty on children. Money is required to meet the basic needs for survival and in poor households there is a paucity of money. Unable to meet the basic needs parents become frustrated. Low income, unstable unemployment, and a lack of good social networks are adding to the stress levels in households. To meet the needs parents often have to slog in multiple jobs leaving no time for their children and also making them overtired.
